Just post what your favourite song is lyrically, try to consider originality, artistic expression, emotion, wit, social consciousness and storytelling. Also post the lyrics of the song for other people to view.
For me, it has to be Time by Pink Floyd, although I'm too young to be able to relate to these lyrics I can really imagine how it must feel. Here are the lyrics, it'd be cool if someone read and commented on them, as I'm interested to read other peoples and basically to just hear opinions etc.
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
Home, home again I like to be here when I can When I come home cold and tired It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spell.

Never really thought about it. Time is Runnin' Out by Muse is pretty cool, so's Starlight. Both have some pretty funky lyrics.

I doubt anyone will read all of this but meh...I think my favourite bands for lyrics are... At The Drive-In/The Mars Volta, Brand New, Deftones, Pearl Jam and Tool. Note that these are just a small amount of songs I like.
With ATDI and The Mars Volta I like how sometimes you just can't figure some of the lyrics out and you just keep thinking and thinking about them. Cedric's vocal melody is amazing on this song... ATDI - One Armed Scissor
Yes this is the campaign Slithered entrails In the cargo bay Neutered is the vastness Hallow vacuum check the Oxygen tanks They hibernate But have they kissed the ground Pucker up and kiss the asphalt now Tease this amputation Splintered larynx It has access now
Brand New are a great band and their lyrics are some of the best I've ever heard, they can be emotional but check these out... Brand New - Play Crack The Sky
I am the one who haunts your Dreams of mountains sunk below the sea (After the storm) I spoke the words but never Gave a thought to what they all could mean (Wrecked in the deep) I know that this is what you want A funeral keeps both of us apart (Washed up on the beach) You know that you are not alone I need you like water in my lungs (This is the end)
I've always found Deftones a great influence to me, Chino bases his lyrics on the feel of the moment and sometimes they are very open to interpretation so you can make it your own. I love Chino's voice, it has an edge about it and just adds to the lyrics, no one else could sing a Deftone's song... Deftones - Digital Bath
You move like I want to To see like your eyes do We are downstairs where No one can see New life breakaway Tonight I feel like more Tonight I...
Pearl Jam I find sometimes have an epic sound, the music is just right and the lyrics that accompany just fits. I like how Pearl Jam can produce some of the most emotional songs I know of and yet also create some pretty rocking ones too. I know no one else really cares about Pearl Jam but I think they're very important. I find this song really powerful... Pearl Jam - Black
I take a walk outside I'm surrounded by some kids at play I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning How quick the sun can, drop away And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass Of what was everything? All the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything... All the love gone bad turned my world to black Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll ever be...yeah...
Finally with Tool... Maynard has a unique voice and I love the spirtual meanings behind the lyrics it really makes you think. I find with Tool it does push your mind some of the lyrics really are hard to figure out as they are very complex. Tool - Lateralus
Swing on the spiral of Our divinity and Still be a human
With my feet upon the ground I move myself between the sounds And open wide to suck it in, I feel it move across my skin I'm reachin' up and reachin' out, I'm reachin' for the random or Whatever will bewilder me, whatever will bewilder me And following our will and wind, we may just go where no one's been We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been
Spiral out Keep going Spiral out Keep going Spiral out Keep going Spiral out! Keep going

I read through all of that post Velocity, and I have to say the lyrics I liked most were the Brand New lyrics, followed by the ATDI lyrics, they created great mental imagery for me.

Linkin Park- Faint Kelly Clarkson- beautiful Disaster Michael jackson (omgwtfbbq) - man in the mirror Swing Life Away- Rise against Am I loud and clear or am I breaking up? Am I still your charm or am I just bad luck? Are we getting closer or we just getting more lost? I'll show you mine if you show me yours first Let's compare scars I'll tell you whose is worse Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words
Chorus] We live on front porches and swing life away We get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the end I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand
I've been here so long I think that its time to move The winter's so cold summer's over too soon Let's pack our bags and settle down where palm trees grow And I've got some friends some that I hardly know But we've had some times I wouldn't trade for the world We chase these days down with talks of the places that we will go
[Chorus]
I'll show you mine if you show me yours first Let's compare scars I'll tell you whose is worse Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words
[Chorus]
