'A GUNMAN brought terror to an NEC concert by outspoken American rapper Kanye West when he shot two stewards.
The stewards were wounded as they were ushering a gang from the NEC Arena for not having tickets. It happened in an entrance lobby moments after the gang tried to get into the concert last night.
Police said the dispute turned violent with one man pulling a handgun on the stewards and firing several shots.
The two male stewards, who have not been named, were left with gunshot wounds. One has been treated and released and the other is still in hospital. His condition is described as serious.
The shooting happened at 10pm when the show was under way and with most of the sell-out crowd and Brit award winning rapper unaware of the drama.
Police have arrested a man and a woman and detained them. A spokesman said: "This incident involved individuals who had been ejected from the venue for attempting to try to gain entrance to a pop concert without tickets. A firearm was discharged and two stewards were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds."
Detectives today issued an appeal for anyone who was at the show and saw the incident or events leading to it to contact them.
The 28-year-old rapper had been enjoying his first major UK tour since being elevated to super-star status.
Last night was the final gig of his five-date Touch The Sky tour in the UK. He later failed to attend his after-show party at Broad Street nightclub The Works. Hundreds of disappointed fans of the Chicago born musician, unaware of the shooting, were left fuming.
Kanye, who recently wowed audiences at the Brit awards and who is considered the premier rap artist of the moment, had been due to make a personal appearance at The Works immediately after his stage performance.
A security source said: "We were informed of an incident at the NEC and Kanye's personal security team were understandably having reservations about his live personal appearance."
Instead it is believed the Chicago showman went straight back to his suite at Birmingham's prestigious Hyatt hotel on Broad Street, accompanied by his security team.'
Crap, I was quite surprised to hear that. Shows that you can't really go anywhere nowadays without being in danger.
