Eazy-E - Eazy-Duz-It
Eazy-E, described by many to be the Godfather of gangsta rap. Sadly, he died back in 1995 due to an AIDs related disease. Originally Eazy was part of the hip-hop group N.W.A. (Niggaz With Attitude) along with Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren and DJ Yella. Eazy-E is easily distinguishable from other rappers from his slightly high voice, which may take a while to get used to but once you get used to it, sounds great.
Eazy-Duz-It was made back in 1988 under Eazy-E's record label. Ruthless Records. Some of the songs include rapping from MC Ren, Dr. Dre and very occasionally some speaking from Ice Cube. DJ Yella DJ's througout. Here is a brief description of each track:-
01. Still Talkin'
Starts off with two people talking about how they knew Eazy when he was younger. Has a nice, rolling bassline and quite slow drums. A nice laid back melody to the song with some funny yet very sexually explicit lyrics from Eazy-E. The chorus, sounds quite haphazard yet goes quite well with the laid back sound of the rest of the song. There's one part where Dr. Dre tells Yella to rewind it, where if you're wearing headphones and have it turned up loud the sorta rewind sound really f*cks with your ears which is cool.
02. Nobody Move
This is one of the best robbery tracks in hip-hop history. Features rapping from MC Ren. The music in the background sounds perfect to the song. The hook is great too, "Nobody move, nobody gets hurt *BLAM*". Just a generally cool song.
03. Ruthless Villain
A very drum-driven song with a lot of rapping from MC Ren. Features another "rewind moment" from DJ Yella. The chorus is funky with some cool scratching.
04. 2 Hard Mutha's
Starts with Dre saying he left the drum machine behind, so Yella ends up playing drums througout the song. Another one featuring MC Ren. A great drum-driven beat with some cool lyrics. More good scratching at the chorus.
05. Boyz-N-The-Hood (Remix)
The first song Eazy-E ever wrote and probably one of the best. When I say it's a remix, the sound quality has just been upgraded from the original recording. A classic storytale of a day in the life of Eazy. A cool guitar sounds behind Eazy's vocals which fits in perfectly. Around 40 seconds in a nice bit of keyboard (or something similar, don't know what it is) kicks in which gives the song a more sentimental old skool style.
06. Eazy-Duz-It
The title track and definately one of the best songs Eazy-E ever created. The bass is immense at the start of the song and the tempo and music changes througout. A very funky songs in parts. Eazy's rhyming is brilliant and Dre's production is awesome. Yella's slow-scratching around the chorus fits in brilliantly.
07. We Want Eazy
Made to sound like a live concert, featuring Dr. Dre, MC Ren plus some speaking from Ice Cube. A quite happy vibe to this song, one of my favourites for a long time. The bass is kickin' and Yella's scratching is brilliant in places.
08. Eazy-Er Said Than Dunn
One (if not the only one) of Eazy's only clean songs, a very cool jazzy sound to the song in places, with a mint bassline. Eazy's lyrics are perfect. Just a classic song in general. This song was released a single.
09. Radio
Made to sound like a session from Eazy's Radio Station, features a small clip from Public Enemy's "Rebel Without A Pause" plus some talking from some other N.W.A. members. Some cool guitar and perfect drums plus pretty funny towards the end when some people call in to the station.
10. No More ?'s
One of the faster paced songs of the album, was one of my favourites (and still is one of them) for a long time. Made to sound like an interviewer asking Eazy questions and he raps in response. Eazy's lyrics are beyond cockiness in this song.
11. I'mma Break It Down
N.W.A. kicked the Arabian Prince out because he made some of their beats sound too dancey, and this is a classic example of it. Not one of the good songs of the album, sounds a bit like "Something 2 Dance 2".
12. Eazy-Chapter 8 Verse 10
More of an interlude than a song. Just features some speaking from Eazy and some fast paced drums.
13. Intro: New Year's E-vil
Another interlude.
14. Only If You Want It
Eazy's vocals are pretty bad on this song, and the beat isn't too good. But it's grown on me and after you pay some time listening to it it's pretty good.
15. Neighborhood Sniper
Awesome track with a great video. Some awesome lyrics with vocals by Kokane and 187um Killa. A cool beat with a dark murderous theme to it.
16. Niggaz My Height Don't Fight
An awesome beat to this song, with a pretty good bassline, and some wicked lyrics. The chorus is mint too with some mixed samples from a few N.W.A. songs.
17. Merry Muthaf*ckin' Xmas
A very very funny song with some highly innappropriate yet hilarious lyrics from Eazy-E and many other rappers. A kinda remix of alot of Christmas Carols all mixed together with some explicit lyrics from Eazy-E and friends. A great track.
All in all, for a fan of hip-hop in general an essential purchase. For a non-rap fan worth a try, this could be the album to get you into some wicked old skool music. The album is jam-packed with awesome basslines, perfect drums, some cool guitars and brilliant, funny lyrics. Eazy-E was the frontman of N.W.A. and is one of the best rappers ever in my opinion.
