The guitar shredding master that is Joe Satrianni, has taken a different approach to his latest album, Super Colossal. Taking a step away from the heavyish 80s guitar stylings of SurfingWith The Alien, Joe has gone for a more calm, maybe even funky, vibe. This seems evident in tracks such as "Just Like Lightning", with its almost Chilis esque guitar sound, or "A Cool New Way" which resembles somthing from the Prog Rock band Yes. But there are still a few "Heavier" more old school tracks.
Both Surfing With The Alien and Super Colossal are technically impressive, but in two very different ways. Alien is far more in-your-face, while Super Collosal is more subtle.
Maybe Satch is mellowing as he's aging...
