RIP Syd.
Can't say I've heard much by Pink Floyd, but it's bound to be a blow to his family.

He was only with Pink Floyd for like the first album and had a hand in making the second one.
He took too much LSD so it triggered schizophrenia for him, so obviously he couldn't continue working with the band.
Sometimes while on tour playing live, he would sing different songs to what the rest of the band were playing..so he couldn't stay in the band could he?

His progression into mental illness actually influenced alot of Roger Waters' song writing for Pink Floyd. 'Brain Damage' on the 'Dark Side of the Moon' album is all about mental illness, and the line '..and when the band you're in starts playing different songs..' is directly about Barret.
The whole album 'Wish You Were Here' is dedicated, and about, Syd Barret.
