In terms of story-telling, the latter are better. But in terms of effects, the first 3.
Erm, because I like Darth Vader, 4, 5 and 6 are better.

I'd say the old trilogy (4,5,6) because they began star wars and it seemed as though episodes 1, 2 and 3 weren't as good as the old ones.

The lightsaber sequences were way better in 1, 2 and 3. But 4,5 and 6... are classic.

I'm gonna go with the latter trilogy. In terms of epic battles, nothing compares. They wern't handled as well in the new trilogy, and I feel lucas attempted to live up to the predecessors, but he tried far too hard.
